Free Uniforms for New Tangsel Students Not Yet Distributed, Education Agency: Use Old Uniforms First
Tangsellife.com - The free school uniform distribution program for new students in South Tangerang City (Tangsel) cannot be realized at the beginning of the 2026/2027 Academic Year. The South Tangerang City Government (Pemkot) is still awaiting the approval of the Revised APBD before procurement and distribution of uniforms can be carried out.
The Head of the South Tangerang City Education and Culture Office (Dindikbud), Deden Deni, stated that the uniform procurement process is expected to be carried out around September to October 2026.
"Waiting for the Revised APBD. Around September or October," said Deden when met at the South Tangerang City DPRD Building, Tuesday (7/7/2026).
Students Asked to Use Old Uniforms
While the program is not yet running, new students are still allowed to wear school uniforms they already own so that teaching and learning activities can proceed as usual.
"Just use the old ones first, it's okay, use the old uniforms first," he said.
According to Deden, this policy is temporary until the uniform procurement process is completed.
Assistance Prioritized for Underprivileged Students
Deden explained that in the initial phase, the free uniform program will not be provided to all new students.
The government will prioritize students from underprivileged families, especially those admitted through the affirmation jalur.
"In these early years, it will be phased. We will help those who are less fortunate with uniforms first, especially sports and batik uniforms," he explained.
Budget Still Awaiting SPMB Results
The budget amount to be used for the procurement of free uniforms also cannot be confirmed yet. Dindikbud is still awaiting the completion of the 2026 New Student Admission System (SPMB) process so that the real needs can be calculated.
"It cannot be calculated yet. Waiting for SPMB to finish first," he said.
Previously, the Mayor of South Tangerang, Benyamin Davnie, also stated that the free uniform program for the 2026/2027 academic year will be implemented in stages. In the initial phase, assistance will be prioritized for families categorized as Desil 1 and Desil 2 in the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) as part of efforts to assist low-income communities.
