Tangsel City Government Seeks Solution for Tangled Cables, Prepares Integrated Poles
Tangsellife.com - The Tangerang Selatan (Tangsel) City Government is seeking solutions to address the problem of chaotic utility cables on several main roads.
In addition to continuing the program to bury cables underground, the City Government is now studying the concept of integrated poles as an alternative for organizing utility networks to be neater and more controlled.
Chaotic Cables in Tangsel Become Spotlight
The Deputy Mayor of Tangsel, Pilar Saga Ichsan, said that cable management in his area has been carried out in cooperation with the Association of Telecommunication Network Operators (APJATEL).
However, the implementation is still facing obstacles, especially because the process of moving cables underground requires significant costs and operator readiness.
“Technically, they have to provide new cables to be buried underground. The price is also quite expensive,” said Pilar, Monday (22/6).
Tangsel City Government Studies Integrated Pole Concept
According to Pilar, this situation has led the City Government to consider the concept of integrated poles as an additional solution.
This concept allows all utility cables to be centralized on one shared pole, making them more organized and preventing them from accumulating in the air.
“If the underground cable process is slow, we will combine it with integrated poles to make it neater and prevent the addition of illegal cables,” he explained.
Not Just Aesthetics, But Safety
Pilar emphasized that the management of chaotic cables is not only about the city's aesthetics but also concerns public safety.
The condition of dangling cables and inadequate poles is considered a potential hazard to road users.
“This concerns safety and the city's image, so it must be handled seriously,” he asserted.
Inventory of Priority Points
To expedite handling, the Tangsel City Government, through the Department of Water Resources, Highways, and Construction (DSDABMBK), is currently inventorying priority points for management.
Funding sources are also being prepared from various options, ranging from the Regional Budget (APBD), CSR, to cooperation with APJATEL.
“Currently, we are inventorying first. Whichever is most urgent will be the priority,” said Pilar.
Targeting Management by 2030
The Head of DSDABMBK Tangsel, Robbi Cahyadi, said that the management of utility networks on main road corridors is targeted to be completed gradually by 2030.
This year, eight road segments are included in the cable management program, with a total length of 16,825 meters.
These eight segments include Jalan Pondok Betung, Kertamukti–Purnawarman, Villa Melati Mas Raya, Jelupang Raya, Rawa Buntu Utara, Surya Kencana–Reni Jaya, Jalan Pahlawan, and Lengkong Gudang Timur.
Hope to Create a Neater City
Robbi added that the City Government also aims for more modern road corridor management, including pedestrians, road markings, traffic signs, and orderly utility networks.
“If everything is organized, the impression of squalor due to chaotic cables can be reduced, and public safety will be better guaranteed,” he concluded.
