Magelang Kejari Detains Bank Employee and Debtor, Alleged Rp4 Billion Credit Corruption Harms State
Tangsellife.com - The Magelang City Prosecutor's Office (Kejari) has named two suspects in a corruption case involving credit management at Perumda BPR Bank Magelang. The two suspects are identified by their initials S (45), who serves as the Head of Marketing at Bank Magelang, and HI (47), a debtor.
After undergoing intensive examination by Special Crimes (Pidsus) investigators from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM WIB, both were immediately detained and taken to the Magelang Class IIA Penitentiary (Lapas) on Wednesday (24/6/2026).
Both appeared wearing pink detainee vests and had their hands cuffed as they exited the Kejari Magelang examination room.
Detained for 20 Days
The Head of Special Crimes Section (Kasi Pidsus) of Kejari Magelang, Muchammad Rosyidin, stated that the detention was carried out after investigators found sufficient evidence related to alleged corruption in the credit management of BPR Bank Magelang for the period 2020-2025.
"Today, we have named two individuals as suspects and detained them, namely S as the Head of Marketing of BPR Bank Magelang and HI as the debtor," Rosyidin told reporters.
According to him, the two suspects will undergo the first stage of detention for the next 20 days at the Magelang Class IIA Detention Center (Rutan).
Started with a Rp4 Billion Credit
This case began with the disbursement of a credit amounting to Rp4 billion to a housing developer company on June 13, 2023.
Before the credit was disbursed, the bank reportedly conducted field verification and collateral assessment for several months. However, in practice, it was found that the collateral used did not meet the requirements as it was still in the name of another party.
"The collateral was not clear and clean, still in someone else's name. Such a condition should have been a consideration for not disbursing the credit," explained Rosyidin.
The loan had a tenor of one year and was supposed to be fully repaid in June 2024.
Debtor Only Paid Interest
In the course of its journey, the credit became non-performing. The debtor was known to have only paid the interest two to three times, with each payment amounting to approximately Rp56 million.
Meanwhile, the principal loan of Rp4 billion had not been paid at all by the due date.
"Only the interest was paid several times. The principal loan has never been paid," he said.
This condition caused the credit to become non-performing and resulted in a significant potential loss for BPR Bank Magelang.
Problematic Collateral Cannot Be Auctioned
The problem became more complicated because the 14 certificates used as collateral were still registered in the names of other parties.
As a result, when the credit became non-performing, the assets could not be immediately auctioned to cover the bank's losses.
"Because the status of the collateral was not clear and clean, these assets could not be used to recover state financial losses," explained Rosyidin.
Investigators suspect there was a collaboration between the debtor and internal bank officials, allowing a credit application that should not have met the requirements to be approved.
Kejari Examined 15 Witnesses
In the investigation process, Kejari Magelang examined at least 15 witnesses to uncover the series of events in this case.
Meanwhile, the official calculation of state losses is still being conducted by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).
Nevertheless, investigators estimate the potential state loss to be around Rp4 billion, corresponding to the value of the problematic credit.
"State losses are currently still being calculated by BPKP, but the potential is around Rp4 billion," he asserted.
Charged Under New Criminal Code Corruption Articles
For their actions, both suspects are charged under Article 603 or Article 604 of the new Criminal Code concerning corruption offenses, including the provisions in Law Number 1 of 2025 concerning the adjustment of criminal penalties.
The potential punishment awaiting them is a minimum of two years in prison, with the possibility of an increase based on the investigation findings and evidence presented in court.
Kejari Magelang investigators assure that the case development is ongoing to further investigate the possibility of other parties being involved in the alleged credit corruption.
