Gerindra Denies Bribery Allegations Involving Gibran and UBK Student Council, Cites Attempt to Divide Prabowo-Gibran
Tangsellife.com - The Gerindra Party Faction in the DPR RI defended Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka regarding the controversy over alleged money reception by several students of Bung Karno University (UBK) which has recently been widely discussed on social media.
Gerindra considers the accusations linking Gibran with alleged bribery of the former Chairman of the UBK Faculty of Law Student Executive Body (BEM) to be unilateral claims and lacking a strong legal basis.
Gerindra Asks the Public to Wait for the Ongoing Process
The Secretary of the Gerindra Party Faction in the DPR RI, Bambang Haryadi, asked the public not to rush to form opinions before there are verified facts.
According to him, the information circulating currently comes from the confessions of several students and cannot be used as a basis to conclude the involvement of certain parties.
"We don't know about that. This is just a unilateral confession from the student friends of the UBK Faculty of Law BEM Chairman, right. So let it go through the process," said Bambang at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (24/6/2026).
Confident Gibran is Not Involved
Bambang emphasized that he is confident that Gibran has no connection with the alleged flow of funds that has become a controversy.
He suspected that other parties were trying to exploit the situation for certain interests amidst increasing public attention on the issue.
"I am sure it has nothing to do with Mas Gibran. I am sure there might be other parties, we don't know," he said.
Claims Efforts to Create a Divide Between Prabowo and Gibran
In his statement, Bambang also touched upon the possibility of political efforts aimed at creating tension between President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
According to him, the recent developing issues have the potential to be exploited to build negative perceptions of their relationship.
"Let's not let these issues be used to divide and create cracks, or to create a divide between the President and Vice President. Because in principle, until now we see their relationship as very good and mutually supportive," stressed Bambang.
Gerindra Believes Gibran Does Not Need to Clarify
Responding to the demands from some parties for Gibran to provide an open explanation to the public, Bambang considered such a step unnecessary.
He argued that issues without a strong basis do not need to be responded to excessively by a Vice President.
"I don't think it's necessary (to clarify), it's not the Vice President's job like that. I think it's an issue that we don't need to respond to excessively," he said.
Gerindra Affirms Support for the Prabowo-Gibran Government
At the end of his statement, Bambang assured that the Gerindra Party would continue to support the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
According to him, government stability must be protected from various speculations and opinions that could disrupt national consolidation.
"We, the Gerindra Faction, will fully support the continuity of President Prabowo and Mas Gibran's government," he concluded.
UBK BEM Controversy Still Under Scrutiny
As is known, the controversy over alleged money reception by several officials of the Bung Karno University Student Executive Body (UBK) is still a public concern. The issue emerged after a video confession of a student who claimed to have received money after participating in a demonstration and a meeting with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka went viral.
To date, there is no legal evidence showing Gibran's direct involvement in the alleged fund disbursement. Several parties have also called for the clarification and investigation process to be conducted openly to avoid the spread of speculation among the public.
