Benyamin Davnie Emphasizes Importance of Digital Literacy to Protect Women and Children in Tangsel
Tangerang Selatan Mayor Benyamin Davnie stressed the importance of digital literacy in protecting women and children from various online risks.
Tangsellife.com - Mayor of South Tangerang (Tangsel) Benyamin Davnie emphasized the importance of strengthening digital literacy as a step to protect women and children from various threats that emerge in the information technology era.
According to Benyamin, the development of digital technology and social media indeed provides many benefits for the community, ranging from ease of accessing information, education, to public services. However, on the other hand, the digital space also harbors various risks that need to be watched out for.
“Parental guidance is very necessary so that children can understand which information is good and which should be avoided,” said Benyamin in a written statement on Monday (22/6/2026).
He assessed that the family is the front line in providing protection to children when interacting in the digital world. Parents not only play a role in providing access to technology but must also actively accompany and supervise its use.
According to Benyamin, healthy digital habits need to be instilled from an early age so that children can utilize technology positively and avoid various threats on the internet.
Besides family, educational institutions also have an important role in building a safe and responsible digital culture. Through educational activities at school, students can gain an understanding of digital ethics, cybersecurity, and the utilization of technology for productive activities.
Benyamin explained that the protection of women and children in the digital space cannot be done by the government alone. Collaboration is needed between the community, schools, businesses, community organizations, and various communities to create a safe digital environment.
“With strong digital literacy, we not only protect them from various threats but also prepare a generation that is intelligent, creative, and capable of utilizing technology for beneficial things,” he said.
He added that the challenges in the digital space today are quite diverse, ranging from cyberbullying, the spread of false information, exploitation, to various forms of technology-based crime.
Therefore, digital literacy is not just about the ability to use technological devices, but also includes the ability to understand information, maintain personal data security, recognize potential threats, and apply ethics in interacting in cyberspace.
To support these efforts, the South Tangerang City Government continues to promote various educational programs involving families, schools, communities, and various other stakeholders.
Benyamin hopes that public awareness of the importance of digital literacy will continue to increase along with the rapid development of technology.
“With strong collaboration, we can create a safe and friendly environment for women and children, both in the real world and in the digital space,” he asserted.
