AHY Responds to Jokowi's Directive to PSI on Supporting 2 Terms
Tangsellife.com - Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), responded to the statement by the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), who was reported to have directed the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) to support the Prabowo Subianto–Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair for two terms.
AHY considered the issue too early to discuss as the 2029 General Election is still quite far away.
AHY: 2029 Election is Still a Long Way Off
AHY made this statement at the Nusantara II Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (22/6/2026).
“Let us all realize that it is still 2026, and towards 2029 is still quite a long time,” said AHY.
Nevertheless, he respects every political party that has its own stance and views regarding future political directions.
Democrats Focus on Economic and Welfare Issues
AHY emphasized that the Democratic Party has not yet discussed long-term political agendas related to the election.
According to him, the party's main focus is on national issues that directly impact the community.
“We will focus on domestic affairs first. We want to ensure that economic growth is maintained, people's purchasing power, job opportunities, and poverty can be reduced,” he said.
Respect Political Dynamics
AHY also emphasized that political dynamics are natural in a democratic system.
However, he stressed that all parties should maintain stability and not rush into discussing the 2029 political contest.
Focus on National Stability
Furthermore, AHY stated that what is more important now is to maintain economic and social stability.
He assessed that strengthening the national economy, reducing poverty, and decreasing inequality should be a shared priority.
“Our focus is there,” he concluded.
